WEDDING BELLS.
SHERRIFF—MURPHY
A wedding that attracted a good deal of interest throughout tho district took place at To Aval yesterday afternoon, when Mr Claude Arthur Sherriff, second son of Mr Bedford Sherriff, of Gisborne, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Elizabeth Murphy, only daughter of Mr Edward Murphy, station holder, of Te Arai. Tho ceremony, took placo in the pretty Arai church (which is noted for its grotesque native carving), and was witnessed by a large number of spectators. The bride was charmingly attired in a dross of white silk, trimmed with lace and pearls, orange blossoms, and handsome lace veil. She carried an exceedingly artistic bouquet, chiefly composed of violets and snowdrops. She was given away by her father, the ceremony being conducted by Rev. Canon Fox. The bride was attended by three bridesmaids, Misses Lena Bennett, A. Smith, and Sherriff, who wore very pretty cream serge costui nes, with Leghorn hats trimmed with ostrich feathers and chiffon. Mrs Murphy, tho mother of the bride, looked very becoming in a handsome dross of black brocaded silk. The bridegroom was accompanied by Mr Louis Sherriff, who aetod as best man, and Messrs J. Murphy and JD. Bennett. The bridal costumes, which were very much admired, were made by the Misses Ebeling, of Whataupoko. The present of tho bridegroom to the bride was an exceedingly handsome diamond ereseont and to the bridesmaids pretty gold brooches. Amongst those prosent at tho Church were the following : Rev. Canon and Mrs Fox, Mr and Mrs J. Clark (Te Arai), Mr, Mrs and Miss Wall (Waercnga-o-kuri), Mr and Mrs Smith (Patutahi), Mr and Mrs Bennett, Mrs and Misses Seymour, Mr and Mrs Sherratt, Mrs Dunlop, Mrs Scntt, Mr and Mrs Arnold Wethored, Mrs H. Maude, Mrs C. Evans, Mrs.lnnos, Misses Bradley (3), King, Foster, Tucker (3), Taylor, Reeves, Evans (2), Bilham (2), Shaw, Cameron (2), and Mr and Mrs Sherriff, Messrs A. F. Kennedy, Hcllier Evans, H. E. Dodd, D. Bennett, Innos, W. W. Smith, H. Smith, W. Smith, M. Murphy, E. R. Murphy, J. Murphy, F. Sherriff, Lionel Sherriff, G. Seott, L. Nolan. As the bridal party left the Church, Miss Foster played the Wedding March. At the conclusion of the ceremony, an adjournment was mado to the residence of the bride’s parents, whore tho guests were entertained at afternoon
tea. The pretty grounds around the house were much admired by the visitors. Tho orange groves near the entrance to the property were heavily laden with beautiful fruit, and presented a most pleasing picture. Nowhere in this district is such a pretty s'ght to be soon. Tho wedding guests spoilt a very pleasant hour or two at the house, and shortly after five o’clock the happy pair left on their honeymoon trip amidst a shower of good wishes from their many frionds. Mr and Mrs Sherriff were tho recipieits of many handsome and costly presents. In addition to cheques from Mr E. Murphy, father of-the. bride, Mrs Stevenson (Slelbourne), and Messrs W. Smith and L. Sherriff (Gisborne;, they also received a handsome pair of silver convertible entree dishes from Mr A. F. Kennedy, manager, and membors of the staff of Messrs Williams and Kettle, Gisborne.
