Farmers’ Defence.
UNION FORMED. [By Telegraph Press Association.] Timaru, last night. A mooting of farmers was hold yesterday after the stock sale at Pleasant Point, with tho object of taking concerted action agajnst tho existing and prospective labor legislation. Mr W. S. Maslin, exM.H.R., was the chiof speaker. At the close a largo number signed in favor of establishing a union of farmers and protect them from excossive Customs duties, and to work in unison with similar associations elsewhere, while, as far as possible, avoiding party politics. Other meetings will be held in other centres. Dunedin, last night. At a mooting of the Taieri Agricultural Society tho incoming committee was instructed to communicate with kindred societies and farmers’ clubs, with the object of forming a farmers’ union. Napier, last night. A meeting of farmers interested in the formation of a Farmers’ Union, was hold at Hastings this evening. Mr Glass, organising Secretary for tho New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was present, and explained the objects of the Union. It was decided to form a branch of tho Union in this district.
