CORONATION OATH.
ORANGEMEN DECLARE THEIR ALARM. STATE THE OATH TO BE THE BULWARK OF PROTESTANT RELIGION., [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, last night. The following motion was passed at a meeting of Orangemen, presided over by Mr H. J. Ranger, Grand Master of the South Island: —“ We, the members of the Loyal Orange Institution, of Christchurch. New Zealand, view with alarm the proposal to alter the declaration or coronation oath. As loyal subjects of His Imperial Majesty King Edward VII., we earnestly aud emphatically protest against any alteration which may alter the constitutional and Protestant character of the coronation oath, which is the bulwark of our Protestant religion, freedom of thought, and religious liberty. Wo recognise and assert that it is essential for the preservation of our civil and religious liberties, aud the freedom of the British Empire from the political and foreign influence of the Vatican that tho Sovereign’s declaration and coronation oath bo maintained unimpaired.” The motion was supported by the Revs. F. Ward and G. Manifold, and othor speakers.
