A Foolish Widow.
TRICKED BY SPIELERS—DAUGHTER’S LUCKY ESCAPE. By Telegraph— Press Association —Copyright London, July 29. Two men, one named George Thompson, alias Stephen, claiming to bo a Bendigo miner, and the other Charles McNally, have been charged at Bow street with defrauding a widow named Annie Renwick, of Bourko street, Melbourne. Mrs Renwick is now voyaging to Melbourne, and has promised the police she will return. She alleges that the prisoners- took her and her daughter to Paris, and promised marriage, and then, under various pretexts, obtained TBOO. No marriage resulted. Accused wore remanded. Melbourne, July HO. The men Thompson and McNally, arrested in London, are believed to bo identical with two well-known spielers. The former was frequently convicted, and the latter absconded from bail. The lady’s identity has not been established, -
