MR LYSNAR’S FIGURES.
Mu AY. D. Lysnar has prepared a number of figures in regard to the amalgamation of Gisborno and suburbs. Ho first of all goes into tho cost of drainage, which lie puts down at .£31,000, made up as follows : Sowers, etc., ,£12,500; four septic tanks, ,£2000; house connections, 4,2000; extension to suburbs, 4115,000. Tho water he proposes to obtain from cither artesian source (Mr Brett’s) or to bring from AVaimata, at a cost of 4214,205, with an additional charge for reticulation for suburbs, 4,15,000 ; total cost of water and drainago, £60,765. Provision is also made for Haiti’s debt, 4,1021; AAliataupoko, £1950 ; Gisborno, £8450 ; and bridges £SOOO, making the total amount required for all purposes, £77,686. In regard to the AVaimata water scheme, it is Mr Boylan’s estimate of £14,265 that Mr Lysnar quotes, tho annual cost of which is estimated at £936 for a population of 7000. The other figures are Mr Mestayor’s. Mr Lysnar has also prepared a table, which has already been published, of the actual results of tho present rating in Gisborne and suburbs, showing that the rate paid in the road districts are higher by a third than in tho borough. The above figures arc based on tho assumption that the soptic principle will bo adopted for drainage, and oither Mr Brott’s artesian water supply or from the AVaimata river for water. Upon these figures a Is 3d rate over tho amalgamated districts would cover tho above expenditure. Added to this als 9d rate for general administration would give a total rating of 3s on tho amalgamated rental values, or a rate of 2fd on tho capital values. This would moan to tho AVhataupoko people an extra rating of a farthing in tho pound, as their last yoar’s total rates were 2d in the pound.
