A conference of sawmillers from Hawke’s Bay, Wairarapa, and Manawatu districts with timber merchants from Wellington City was held on Wednesday. The object of the Confe'rence was to arrange a scale of prices which would be satisfactory to millers, merchants, builders, and contractors. A sub-committee was appointed to arrange prices as between I millers and merchants, it being agreed by both that, so far as consumers were concerned, no alteration of the existing rates be made for at least three months. The Conference also discussed affairs connected with Arbitration Court business and the Workers’ Compensation Act, and it is likely a combination for mutual benefit will result.
