Whataupoko Road Board.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held last night, there bejng present: Messrs Matthew? (Chairman), Lysnar, and Orr. In regard to accident insurance it was decided to insure in the office giving the most liberal terms.

The poundkeeper reported that during the month 18s in feos had been collected. It was stated that people were still allowing stock to roam about at night. Instructions were given for various small works to be attended to. The County Council wrote stating that they would carry out the Board’s wishes as to cleaning out drains at the lower end of Whataupoko main road, and the fennel would be cut in proper season. Mr Joseph Stevenson wrote complaining that the drain on his side of the road was apparently not to be done.

It was resolved that the Board’s portion of the drain be cleaned out, and the County Engineer be interviewed with the object of getting the County portion done; also that the County be asked to give attention to another drain to which Mr Orr referred attention.

On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Lysnar, it was resolved that the rates as notified be struck. Mr Lysnar said there was an erroneous impression abroad that the special rates had not been reduced.

The Chairman said that the special rates had been reduced over 50 per cent. The Chairman and Mr Orr were authorised to sign the rate book. Mr Lysnar gave notice of motion that in future all interest collected for special loans shall be paid into a special trust account in the bank and kept distinct from the ordinary working account. Discussion took place as to drains, it being stated that people who had had drains cleaned out would not put a bridge up for their gates. It was resolved to give notice to Mr Harding as to the drain crossing, and to Mrs Stafford in regard to soakago on to the footpath.

The Chairman was authorised to interview Mr Aston to ask if he would cut down some trees that arc keeping the road in disrepair through shading the sun off it.
