WRECK OF A BARQUE.

TWELVE LIVES LOST. ALL HANDS GET CLEAR, BUT BOAT CAPSIZES.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Opunakc, last night. The iron barque Lizzie Bell, 1000 tons, from Wellington to Newcastle, in ballast, struck about three miles from Captain Good’s place at Oeo. The vessel struck last night about 11 o’clock, and the crew took to the boats. Evidently the mon suffered greatly from tho cold, and it is said that the larger* boat capsized more than once. About 7 o’clock this morning tho largo boat came ashore with several men, among them boing tho captain and mato. The survivors woro very much exhausted, as may bo judged from the fact that two who had got out of tho boat were afterwards found dead with their heads among the rocks. Four doad bodies were found beneath the thwarts of tho boat. Captain Rees and the mate are at Captain Good’s place. Tho former is very much exhausted, and it is impossible at prosent to get anything liko a coherent account of tho wreck.

The crew numbored cightoen. From Captain Good's place, no view of tho wreck can be obtained, but the wreckage is strewn along the beach. Last night the weather was fair, with a sharp, cold breozo blowing, and there was a slight fog. Tho captain is in a very exhausted state, aud a doctor has been wired for. The remaining survivors aro in n fair way, considering their terriblo experience. Tho Lizzie Bell was wrecked elo6C to where tho schoonor Annie Wilson and steamers Mauaia and Maraiua wero wrecked.

All hands got clear in tho ship's boats, Two fell overboard, and wero found this morning jambed in the rocks. The boat aftonvards capsized. Ten men got undorneath, and were drowned.

BODIES RECOVERED. Tho following bodies havo boon recovered : L. Olloy, second mate. D. Lang, A.B. W. Simmons, A.B. J. Perry, A.B. A. Jones, apprentice. MISSING. The following are still missing : J. Mulligan, cook. W. Rener, A.B. J. Partland, A.B. 11. Fredrickson, A.B. W. Boyce, apprentice. Chas. Chappell, apprentice. T. Gay, apprentice.
