A PROTEST TO FEDERAL PREMIER. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Melbourne, July 23. A deputation from tno Peace and Humanity Society presented the Premier a resolution protesting against recent utterances indicating a determination of some politicians to foist a standing army on Australia, and involvo the Commonwealth in the schemes and dangers of European militarism. Mr Barton assured them that the Defence Bill did not contemplate militarism or a standing army, but that reliance xvas placed on the courage and capacity of the citizens for the defence of the continent.
