County Councils Conference.
Bv Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. At the Counties Conference, amongst other amendments to the Bill this morning, it xvas agreed that power b,e taken to compol an owner of land to havo bush felled within q, chain of the boundaries of roqds xvhoro it involves danger to a road or to the travelling public. A proposal to strike out the provision for toll-gates on roads xvas negatived, but funeral processions xvere exempted from tolls, Piggeries xvere not included in the list of general nuisances, It was decided that counties ho given tlie same powers as boroughs in regard to insurances.
This afternoon the Counties Conforenco took up the discussion of the by-laws relating to heavy traffic on County roads. It was resolved that the Revising Committee be instructed to incorporate in Clauso 332 the provisions of the Public Works Act relating to heavy traffic, computation of weights, etc., that are omitted from the present Bill, In subsection 3, clause 33d, the license, fee for hawker or pedlar was permitted to ho as high as £5. The Committee was asked to ascertain whether thoro is provision made for the purchase of land for cemetery purposes. The whole of the schedule in the new Bill was referred to a committee to alter in accordance with the resolutions which have been passed.
