Accident Insurance.

(To the Editor of the Times.) Sir, — I consider that the Times is deserving of the best thanks of the public for the manner in which the question of accident insurance has been placed before them. Tho public certainly need protecting in this matter, as a great many appear to be quite unaware of tho liability they incur when getting work done. I might bo permitted to give an instance for the benefit .of others. A captain of a coastal vessel trading to Gisborne came into my shop the other day and asked me if I had noticed tho leader in the Times. I said yes. He asked me was I aware of the legislation that had been passed. I answered in the affirmative. He said that he had not been aware of the state of affairs, and might any day of the week have been ruined, but fortunately the article in the Times had called his atton- • tion to the subject, and he was exceedingly (hankful therefor, as upon enquiry he found that it was nocessary for him to take the responsibility of protecting the men in his ‘employ ; he found that otherwise not only would he havo to take the risk, but in the event of it being more than ho could stand the strain of, the further loss would fall upon the shippers. Therefore, I am speaking for many others besides myself in extending thanks to the Times. — I am, etc., Francis Stafford.
