Opera for Gisborne.
(To the Editor of the Times.) Sir, —It is to be hoped those who have the run of the ropes will not allow the Musgrore Opera Company to pass us without making some effort to induce the company to land and give a performance. If it is found that the local stages are too small and poorly appointed to accommodate a company of this magnitude, the management might at least be induced to bring principals, chorus, and orchestra ashore and perform the music of one of the operas, simply as a eoncert performance, without costume or stage action. No doubt an entertainment of this sort might fall flat on an unmusical mind, but I feel confident good support by the musical folk would be accorded even an alternative of this sort, as it would give us an opportunity of heftring the music of one of the grand operas without unnecessarily taxing the company.—l am, etc., Mosicus.
