A Banquet.
AFTER-DINNER EULOGIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July 12. At a banquet by Mr Cockburn, the retiring South Australian Agent-General, a large number of guests were present, including the Agents-Gencrals. Lord Stratheona presided. Sir Charles Dilke, in the course of a speech, said that in the event of a continental war Australia would act on the offensive, not on the defensive. Her mounted forces would bo invaluable for defending when the calls on tho fleet would make it difficult to convey British troops there. ’ Several speakers expressed a hope that Mr Cockburn would return as High Commissioner of Australia.
