FIRES IN SYDNEY.

ANOTHER BIG BLAZE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, July 11. Another exteusivo fire occurred early this morning, and ruined a six-storied building occupied by the Imperial Manufacturing Company in Kent-street. A large stock of tea and foodstuffs was damaged to the extent of several thousands of pounds. Considerable damage was done by water. In the Kent-street fire, Lazarus and Rosenfeldt’s, general merchants, adjoining, were damaged by water. The lire brigades did splendid work at both outbreaks. The head of tire Department declares they could have done much better, but they were under-engined and under-manned. Mr Hordern estimates that stock valued at half a million pounds was destroyed. The total damage is unstated. Mr Hordern has secured the Exhibition Building at Prince Alfred Park, and restarted business this morning. FIVE LIVES LOST AT HORDERN’S FIRE. The failure of the persons to return to their homes last night led to tho discovery of tho other victims. Dashwood and Porett wore attending the engines at tho basement of tho building. There were warned to flee. Their two companions got out through the door. It is supposed that they tried to escape by the window, not knowing that it was guarded by iron bars. In the meantime tho fire spread So rapidly that retroat to the door was cut off. Nicholl and Malcolm wore with Clegg on the upper iloor. The fireman who warned them to 1100 for then lives had himself great difficulty in escaping. It is believed that they feared to face the burning stairway, and made their way to the roof. Onlookers state that they saw a second man topple back into the llaiuos just before Clegg jumped. Preparations are being made to dynamite the walls.
