THE RUGBY UNION. The usual weekly meeting of the 11.l 1 . P. Rugby Union was held on Monday eve; - ing. There was a full attendance, Mr Miller presiding. The first business dealt with was in connection with the offer of the Auckland Rugby Union fora rep. match at Auckland on the 81st August After discussion and going into details thoroughly it was decided that the offer was not substantial enough, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Auckland Union pointing this out and asking them if they could not see thenway to increase the offer. A communication was received from Napier asking that the Annual Rep. fixture with Hawke's Bay might be played early in August. It was decided to reply stating that the Union would not yet fix a date, but would advise them in due course. Mcmbcis were of opinion that in view of a probable tour a Selection Committee should now be appointed, and Messis A. W. Rees, W. Gibson and R. Cole were unanimously chosen. Mr Miller reported that whilst in Wellington he had attended the Conference of Referees, and had pointed out to them that this district should not be overlooked in the final selection for the New Zealand Representatives, as it was considered that thc-re were several men who could lay claim to consideration. It was decided to instruct the Selection Committee to choose a player if in their opinion he had sufficient merit to justify his inclusion.
