SEVERE SNOWSTORM.

HEAVIEST FOB THIRTY YEARS. By Telegraph—Tress Association. Christchurch, last night. The recent snowstorm on Ranks Peninsula was the heaviest, say the oldest residents, for thirty years. Snow in many places was over the fence tops. Some drifts were over twenty feet deep, and will take weeks to thaw out. A heavy loss of sheep and cattle is feared. The snow is so deep on the high ground that sheep will have no grass for a few weeks. Only a few spurs along the coast are clear. At Wainui. French Farm. Harry's Bay, and Diivaucln'lles, the snow is down to the water's edge, and is thawing very slowlv.
