Mil GILKUTiI. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Auckland, last night. Mr J. A. Gilruth, of the Government Stock Department, returned from England this morning by the Sonoma. He expresses himself very pleased with the result of his trip. Mr Gilruth leaves for Wellington to-morrow. THE MAIL. The Takapuna left for South with the Southern portion of the inward 'Frisco mail this afternoon. UNIMPROVED VALUES. This morning a deputation from the Bating on Unimproved Values Committee waited on the Mayor, and presenied a petition signed by some 900 ratepayers, j asking that a poll be taken on the ques- ! tion of rating on unimproved values in ! the City. Of the sighatures attached 812 j were those of ratepayers on the new roll, ; 740 only being necessaty to ensure a poll. ! The Mayor said that as soon as the names i of the ratepayers had been authenticated, ! and other preliminaries attended to a poll would be taken.
THE PROFITS OF INSURANCE. The directors of the New Zealand Insurance Companybave declared an interim dividend of 2s per share.
