Snowballing in Wanganui.
TOWNSPEOPLE OUT FOR A FROLIC. THE MAGISTRATE BESIEGED FOR AN HOUR, [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wanganui, last night. Tho heaviest fall of snow over experienced at Wanganui took place early this morning. The streets wore covored with snow two or throe inches deep. Tho town ran riot, and for several hours it seemed as though the inhabitants had become boreft of their senses. Business places wore not opened till ton, and even then the business done was hardly worth mentioning. Employers and employees alike secured points of vantage, and bombarded all and sundry. High and low, rich and poor, young and old, were all served alike. Old and respected residents wore to bo seen bareheaded, flying for life down the street with a score of peoplo, like so many fiends, pelting them. The Magistrate and several others wero besieged for an hour in a tinker’s shop. With few exceptions good humor prevailed, and it need hardly bo said that the exceptions were not allowed to go scot free. The only damage done was to windows, several being broken. We never shall sec its like again, and many don’t wish to.
