WELLINGTON NEWS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Postal Department are advised that mails by the Sierra, which left Auckland on the 15th of June, arrived at San Francisco on the 2nd inst. at o p.m., one day late. Major Madocks’ term of office as start officer to the Commandant expires in October, and he has been granted three months' leave of absence. He will return to England next week. A conference of representatives of the Maori District Councils will be held in Wellington shortly.
