LABOR PARTY'S GAIN IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, July 4. The state of parties is: Ministerial 40, Opposition 40, Labor ‘2d, Independent ’2'2. The leader of the Labor party assorts that no compact exists with the Government. Against this may be set the curious fact that in no instance did a Ministerial candidate oppose a Labor one. As many of the Independents will probably go with the winning side, the victory may be said to rest with the Government. Forty-two now members have been returned. The Labor party gained seven seats and lost one.

The latest returns show that Mr Fitzgerald, a member of the Cabinet, lias been defeated. Parliament meets on July 23rd.
