COMPLIMENT TO MR CARROLL. As anticipated by our special correspondent, there was a special reason for the Royal command for Mr Carroll’s attendance at Dunedin prior to tlio departure of the Royal part}'. Mr Carroll has been singled out for the special compliment of an invitation to bo the guest of the Duke on a visit to England in company with Mrs Carroll. Acceptauco of the invitation would certainly mean the bestowal of that title of which so much has been said, or at any rate it would then be offered. It appears that New Zealand had a liberal "share of the marks of Royal favor, and therefore it is not to be wondered at that no title was forth- 1 coming for Mr Carroll whon it was! anticipated.
