CABLE EXPLORATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, June 25. Nows from Norfolk Island states that the steainor Britannia arrived on the 12tb, having sounded across from Brisbane. The soundings disclosed generally a very suitable bottom for laying the cable. Deep soundings were taken, which gave a depth of 2l r miles. A large range of submarine mountains was discovered 1500 ft high, 60 miles long, and 30 in breadth. The cable will have to go round the mountains. It is proposed to land the cable at Anson’s Bay, where the Company has secured 100 acres. It is understood that Norfolk Island will be a repeating station, and that a largo staff will be kept, After a stay of a few days the Britannia resumes her soundings to the Bay of Islands, New Zealand,
