The Zcalandia, which left for Sydney last evening, took bullion valued at .£7,930. St-. Matthew's Building Committee have decided to advertise in four centres for the construction of a now stone church with a spire four feet higher than the monument in London. The Auckland members were entertained at a supper and concert by the Auckland Cyclo Roads League, and promised hearty support of the Cycle Boards Bill next session.
Wellington, last night. Seven disputes await hearing at the Arbitration Court, besides 23 applications for enforcement of awards.
Mr Sutherland, the tobacco expert, engaged by the Government from Fiji to report as to the suitability of the North Island for the culture of tobacco, finds that the leaf could be profitably grown in certain districts of the island.
Dunedin, last night. As the 10.20 train from Dunedin to Mosgiol was drawing up to the platform at Abbotsford station last night, Henry Parnell, an elderly man, fell undor ore of the carriage wheels and received fatal injuries. Deceased formerly followed the avocation of a baker at Abbotsford.
