Local Authorities Bill.

(Times Correspondent.) AVairoa, Juno 22. At the meeting of the AA r airoa County Council, the clerk read the following report of the sub-committee appointedjtodraw up suggestions for the Conference, which should be of interest on the Gisborneside. That this Council's delegato be instructed as follows: 1. To oppose any alteration to be made in the franchise. . 2. To oppose the abolition of Town Boards. 3. To oppose any alterations in the method of electing the Chairman. 4. To oppose the alteration in -the term for which Councillors are elected. 5. To urge that ratepayers be permitted to vote in each riding where qualified as heretofore. 6. To represent that 30 days should be the minimum period for the closing of. rolls prior to elections. 7. To advocate the striking out of tho residential clause. 8. To advocate that HIOO be the maximum annual allowance to Chairmen. 9. To oppose any addition to the number of Councillors in each County. 10. To advocate the inereaso of the annual subsidy to 10s in the £ on rates collected. 11. To represent that no rate for libraries is required. 12. To represent that Koad Boards are unnecessary. 13. To point out that County Councils should not be asked to inspect dairies. 14. To suggest the striking out of Section 324 (baths and wash-houses). 15. Bridge over Stewart’s crossing to bo pressed on the attention of the Ministers by AVairoa delegate. Cr Neale said he did not see why the Council should object to the work of inspecting dairies. The milk question was a very important one, and if let alone some dairy people would keep their milk under the bed. (Laughter). The Chairman said their Engineer had as much as he could do to look after the roads and bridges. Cr Brown moved, and CrNeale seconded —That the report of the sub-committee be adopted.—Carried. The clerk said he thought an entiroly new bill would be brought down this session.
