Royal Favors.
To the Editor. Sir, —I have a question for the local Liberal Association to discuss. I should like to know whether the acceptance of the honor of knighthood by Messrs Ward and McKenzie is in keeping with the traditions of the so-called Liberal party in New Zealand, as outlined by their great leaders, Seddon and Ballance. Messrs Seddon and Carroll do not yet appear to have been drawn under the aristocratic influence, but there is no telling how long they may remain outside of the'mystic circle, unless our Premier is playing for some higher game. I trust that our own member will not fall into the snare, and accept any of these tinsel dignities. The action of Ministers in this matter, more than anything else, will, in my opinion, tend to the gradual undermining of the confidence which has been generously placed in them by the Democratic party in New Zealand. —I am, etc., Plain Bill.
