Extension of Borough.
(To tho Editor of the Times.) Sir,—l think tho Whataupoko and Haiti electors who attended tho meeting last night (Wednesday) have good cause to complain of tho action of the Chairman, because he —either from partizan motives, or from want of knowledge of the duties of Chairman —declined to put to the mooting the motion made by me, as amended. My motion having boon seconded becamo the property of the meeting; and the meeting having resolved that it should have words added to it empowering the Committee to confer with the Borough Council, thoso words should have been added, and the motion, with such addition, then should have been put to tho meeting. The Chairman declined to do this, and so the meeting ended—in smoke. We are now just “as you were,” although undoubtedly tho meeting desired to have the Committee appointed. Probably the best thing now to do is for the Committee to ignore the bungle, and proceed to gathor the information desired, and to bring up a report to another meeting to be held later. If we hope to carry an extension of the borough, depend upon it the electors will only consent after they fully understand what are to bo the effects and results of amalgamation. This is a subject of great importance, and one to which wo cannot give the'go-by ; it is one that can only bo dealt with properly after full and reliable information has been obtained; and it is one about which there is no need to. hurry. And if any attempt be mado to force a petition on"without such full knowledge it ought to bo, as I havo little doubt it will bo, reI sonted. —I am, etc.,, W. SIEVWRIGHT.
