McLean and Sons, 1)17,438 ; Mayo and Gordon, £18,535 ; W. Henry, £20,160; Feguson and Malcolm, £20,927; | M. J. Davis, £21,909. Wellington, last night. The Postal Department is advised that tho mails sent from Melbourne by the Orizaba on May 15th arrived at London on June 16tb, two days early. Tho five thoroughbred horses purchased in England by Mr Gilruth arrived by the Papanui. They are in first-rate condition.
Nelson, last night. A severe north-east gale accompanied by heavy rain, raged last night. All the rivers in the district are in high Hood. At Takaka the township was under water l during the night.' Water was also in several houses at Brightwater. Two breaches were made in the Stoke end of the Rock’s road wall. The rainfall for J line to Sate ]is nearly seven inches, as against only three-quarters of an inch for the whole of May. The college and school cadets left for Christchurch via Picton and Wellington last night. The trip to Picton occupied over twelve hours. .
