ASCOT STAKES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, June 19. Sicver’s Lavongio won the Ascot Biennial Stakes. NORTH GRAND NATIONAL MEETING.

Bv Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, last night. For the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting, third day, the weather was very showery, and the track heavy. The attendance was fair. A sum of T 9308 was put through tho totalisator. The • principal jumping event in tho Winter Handicap Steeplechase went to Voltigeur 11., who held Princess of Thule and Plain Bill safe in the run to the post. Tho Winter Welter was run under the disadvantage of a heavy rain that fell. Beddington was most prominent at the start, but allowed Tukapa to make the pace to the straight, and later on drew out at tho lawn rails, and won by a couple of lengths from Voleo. The results are as follows:

A great battle to the post resulted in a victory for the grey gelding by a bit better than a length from Kowhai, with Hylas some distance away third, Sudden a bad fourth. Dingo and Princess of Thule were in the lead on the first circuit, only to give way to Yoltigeur 11., and the old grey, bowling along with a five-lengths lead, landed safely over the last fence, and won by half a dozen lengths from Princess of Thule, who was closely pressed by Plain Bill.
