Mr Lewis, Tasmanian Premier, has wired to Mr Barton emphatically protesting against the clause of the Postal Bill which deals with the carriage of mail matter with reference to sweeps. He claims that the Federal Parliament has no power to pass Jaws regulating gambling, therefore it is an infringement of State rights to attempt to override legislation under which certain lotteries are legalised in Tasmania.
