WANGANUI SUPREME COURT.
THE ATTEMPTED MURDER,

In the Supreme Court sentences were deferred on Smith and Shanahan, convicted yesterday. To-day charges of attempted rape and indecent assault are bein» heard against Thomas Spalding. It is expected that the criminal sessions will conclude to-day, and the sessions will then be adjourned to tho 25th, before Judge Edwards. , Later.— TheTSupreme Court criminal sessions concluded to-day.
Thomas Spaldine, for common assault on a young woman, was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment. George Shannahan, alias Shannon, for a brutal assault on an elderly woman, was sentenced to eight years’ hard labor. Wm. Drummond Smith, on a charge of arson, was sentenced to two and a half years’ hard labor. The civil sitting of the Court was adjourned to the 24th inst.
