FOOTBALL.

There being no senior football fixture on Saturday next, the Rugby Union has decided to hold a Rugger tournament among the senior clubs. The four districts have each entered a team, and in the first round City are drawn to meet Huia, and West End are pitted against Kaiti. The contests should prove highly exciting, and draw a good gate. The Huia team for the Rugger sevens will be as under: Te Reina, Baker, Leah, Blair, Ball, Sharp, McGrath, Caulton

McLeod, Witty, Coleman, Dobson, Roy- ■ nolds, Bright, Hansen, Leach, Moore, 1 Bright, Moore, Cleary, McLeod, Franklin, 1 Brosnahan (2), Jackson, Hicks, Black. ! Players must be on the ground at 3 sharp. The usual weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Referees’ Association was held last evening, and was well attended. A communication was received from the Union re the starting of the matches at the advertised time, and it was decided to ask the Union to advertise the matches at 2.45 p.in., when the referee in charge would see that the game was started punctually. In order to assist in keeping the lines clear, members of the Association are to be provided with a suitable badge of office to indicate their authority. Considerable interesting discussion on (

various rulings ensued. The following gentlemen were unanimously elected honorary members of the Association : Messrs E. L. Maude, H. W. Symes, and T. E. Kirk. All matters in connection with the Rugger Sevens Tournament were settled, and the following gentlemen were appointed referees Huia v. Huia, Mr G. Crawford; Kaiti v. West End, Mr W. S. McCrcdie ; final, Air A. W. Rees; timekeeper, Mr O. J. Hamilton. The following rules for the tournament wero' then decided upon':—Two ten minute spells. Free-kicks must be takcu with all possible speed. If no score is made, tho game shall proceed till either side score. Interval of ten minutes before final heat.
