The Borough Council acted wisely on Tuesday night in deferring the subject of Mr Mestayer’s water supply scheme until it could be more fully considered, and in having a night set apart for its discussion. It must have come as a great surprise to the public, on opening their morning journal yesterday, to find that Cr Lysnar had ranked himself as a stern opponent of the scheme recommended by Mr Mestayer, because that scheme happened to have reference to Waihirere. The reason given by Cr Lysnar for his opposition is cortainly ono worthy of careful consideration, but what is most to be regretted is that the objection should have been brought forward at such a late stage. It is essentially an engineering question, and' is ono to which the attention of Mr . Mestayer might well bej called. The probability is that he fully considered the matter beforo making his report; if he failed to do so, it is a grave omission. At present, it would appear that a layman’s opinion has been set against that of a leading expert, but the point should liavo attention before the special meeting, as it is quite possible others may be led into the same way of thinking as Cr Lysnar. 1
