METROPOLITAN COMMITTEE.
At the monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club Metropolitan Committee it was resolved to write to the AVanganui Jockey Club, thanking thorn for the consideration shown in altering tho dates of their spring meeting to the great convenience of the Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society and. the Hawko’s Bay Jockey Club. A vote of thanks was also accorded to Messrs George Hunter and Joseph H. AVilliams for their kind services in proceeding to AVanganui to interview the AVanganui Committee. Arthur Neale, jockey, interviewed the Committee, and asked them under Buie 144 to grant his discharge from the service of T. Quinlivan, junr., who had refused it. The Committee heard tho evidence of Neale and Quinlivan, and it was resolved that A. Neale’s jockey’s license be suspended till the 31st July for leaving his employer without giviug proper notice.-
Mr E. Boyd wrote asking for tho removal of the disqualification of his mare Lena, caused through competing at tho unregistered meeting held at Kopua on Ist January last.—Resolved, “ That ample notice had been given, and the disqualification would not be removed.”
Three pounds from tho jockey’s benevolent fund was voted to Thomas Connop. A complaint from tho Hastings Town Band with regard to two licensed jockeys was considered outside the control of the committee, but would be inquired into on licensing day. The following licenses wore granted : Trainers, A. J. Banks, Te Teira AVhiri; AVm. G. Couper, held over for information. Jockeys, George Blake; Vincent O’Neill (refused). Gentlemen riders, A. AVellwood, AVin. ‘ O’Douoghue, 11. Shanley, Oliver Evans, B. S. Bennett, AV. Jobson, junr., Dugald McKenzie, AValter Scott. Messrs J. 11. Coleman and G. S. V. AVenley waited on the committee, and thanked them, on behalf 'of tho Agricultural and Pastoral- Society, for the arrangement of dates of tho Spring Meeting, and also wished to record their thanks to tho committee of the Wanganui Jockey Club for having so kindly acceded to the wishes of tho Jockey Club and 'Agricultural Society. It was resolved that the following alterations to the Buies of Racing bo recommended to tho Conference to be held next month: —Buie 15C : No hurdle race shall be under one mile and threequarters. Rule 77 to be altered to real as follows!—After the word “ the ” at the end of the third line, striko out the words “ amount of such overweight ” and insert the words “ the total amount of weight carried,” and after the word “ the ” in the sixth line to strike out the words “ amount of such extra weight to be carried.” Buie 142, Vl.a : After the word “ employer ”in the sixth lino strike out.all tho words to “disqualification” in the eleventh line. Rule 152: Strike out tho word “ may ” in the third line and insert the word “ shall.”
The meeting then adjourned till Friday next, when the date of meetings for ensuing season will he considered. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club committee meeting was also adjourned till next Friday. Captain Russell and the Hon. J. D. Ormond were appointed representatives to the ensuing Conference.
