1 [By Telegraph—Pres3 Association.] , Wellington, last night. The Department of Agriculture has re- [ ceived the following cablegram from the Agent-General:—“London, June Bth: ! Average price to-day of Canterbury mut- * ton is 8 8-Bd, Dunedin and Southland [ 8 l-Bd, North Island 2 7-Bd, Australia 2r)d, Biver Plate 23-8 d ; Canterbury lamb 5 l-Bd, other brands 4 7-B.d, Australian 4Jd ; New Zealand beef, hinds 3 5-Bd, fores 2j]d, Prime quality mutton is scarce. Tho market is over supplied with heavy carcases, for which there is a dull sale. Of Australian mutton there is a large supply. Damaged carcases of mutton having been put on the market have hurt prices. There is a steady scarcity of prime quality of lamb. Many of the lambs coming forward this season are too heavy, and have to be sold as tegs at reduced prices. The beef market is weak. Tho weather lately has been unfavorable to the sale of beef. The price of butter to-day is 975. The butter market is firm. The price of cheese to-day is 483 white, 44s colored. There is a better demand for cheese. Price of New Zealand hemp— ‘Good, fair Wellington,’ graded on spot to-day, per ton, is £26; 1 fair current Manilla ’ £3i; hemp mar ket, firm. I expect no immediate change in the hemp market. New Zealand stocks on June. Ist: 295 tons, against 796 last year. Averago prices for bright, clean, New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171 b per bushel on spot, is 37s per cwt. Buyers ] rave been offering for cocksfoot more » freely.”
