BOWLING.
Although the bowling season was supposed to have ended on the 24th ult., the green has not yet been closed, and whilst the present spell of fine weather conI tinues, bowlers will be able to indulge in that most ancient of pastimes. The green yesterday presented a most pleasing appearance, and reflected great credit upon the genial caretaker, Mr F. Tansley, I who is always untiring in his efforts to promote the comfort of members and visitors. The proposed match between Gisborne and Suburbs did not come off, owing to the latter being unable to get together a sufficient number of players. Sides were therefore picked by Messrs Ponsford and Coleman, and several interesting matches took place, the honor of the afternoon being in favor of Gisborne’s champion skip, whose teams were to the good on the aggregate by sixteen points. The following were the scores:—
Ponsford’s teams Coleman’s teams Massey Quigley Wallace Orr Dixon McGowan Ponsford (skip) 33 Coleman (skip) 15 Matthewson Rosie Pettie "Witty Bright (skip) 20 Hennessy (skip 23 C. Adair Nicholas Morgan Lewis Humphreys Robertson Gaudin (skip) 25 Sidebottom (sk) 24 78 62 Majority for Ponsford 16.
