TEACHERS’ SALARIES.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) New Plymouth, last night. The Teachers’ Salary Commision opened here this morning. The first witness waa Mr McCallum, Chairman of the Education Board. He favored a colonial scale of salaries. He thought a graduated capitation scheme would suit Taranaki best. By the proposed scale the Taranaki Board would lose nearly £7OO. He thought inspectors should be under Government control, The Commission will probably conclude early to-morrow.
