ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Py Telegraph—Press Association.) t Wellington, last night. A man named William Mason, who was thrown from a trap on the Ohiro road ten days ago, meeting with an injury to the spine, died at the hospital to-day. Auckland, last night.
On the last day of the Takapuna races, while the crowds were coming home, a man named Jones fell over the Devonport wharf, and was rescued by Constable Cahill. While he was being rescued, a woman screamed that another man was in the water, but in the darkness no- one could bo seen there, and it was thought she was mistaken. There is reasom to fear that the woman was right, as a man named Matthew Miller has been missing since that date. Ho lived with his aged mother at Kingsland.
The infant son of G. E. Harrisoii, of Ellerslio, has died from burns. The -door of the range being down,"the child got its clothes. A servant tore .the clothing off and suppressed the flames, bnt the child was badly burned about the legs, arms, and body, and died. The police have received advice that a half-caste named John Drummond is reported to have committed suicide by cutting his throat at Waikanae. Reefton, this day. Two accidents are reported. A man named Petersen, who was forking at a low level, was seriously injured by a fall of stone, and it is thought his spine is affected. Robert Kearns, at Golden Point, was injured by a rolling log, sustaining a fractured thigh. Dunedin, last night. Harry May, head of a large confectionery factory in the city, was found drowned this morning at St. Clair baths. He left his home last night, saying he was joing to the country, but after leaving oicycle at his brother-in-law’s residence, he betook himself to the baths, where his body was discovered in four feet of water. He leaves a wife and three children. A short time ago he suffered severely from insomnia, and went for a trip 'to Auckland. Later. —It would now appear that H. M. May had been worried greatly by business matters, and suicide is now behoved to have been premeditated.
