TROOPS BEFORE ROYALTY.

It is expected by the Premier that there will bo 4,000 troops at Auckland, and about 8,000 at Christchurch, during the Royal visit to those Centres. A MINING CLAIM. Mr R. A. Lo.ughnan has been commissioned by the Government to write an account of the tour of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall throughout the colony. THE TOUR. The present intention is that on Thursday, the 20th iust., the Royal party will make a railway excursion from Wellington through Wairarapa to Woodvillo, returning to this city via Palmerston North. THE BROOKLYN. The United States armed cruiser Brooklyn arrived here to-day, and will remain a week, sailing hence to Sydney. MIDLAND RAILWAY. At the sitting of the Midland Railway Commission this morning, Dr Findlay, for the Company, put in an amended statement of the amount claimed to have been spent by the Company on the construction and equipment of the railway. The sum is now H 770,273, as compared with the original statement of i 11,838,000.
