In tho Divorce Court, of Wellington, Elizabeth Smith was granted a decree nisi against William Smith on tho ground of continued desertion. At Christchurch a verdict of accidental death 'was' returned at the inquest on John Morton, who died of injuries received whilst unloading a waggon.
A writ for £SOO for libel has been served on Mr Hornsby, member for the Wairarapa, by W. Moriarty, a storekeeper at Carterton. The case will be heard at Masterton District Court on the 26th June. ' •'W r
In his evidence before the Conciliation Board at Wairoa, Mr Powell, of the Tara’ru Creek Goldmining Company, carrying on operations at the Thames, stated that it had cost the company £BO,OOO sterling to produce £40,000 worth of gold. * A contemporary states that there is considerable, speculation in Dannevirke land just now' owing to the projected change of site for the railway station, and the consequent conjectures os to where it will be placed.
