IGISBORNE RIFLE BAND.
After practice on Tuesday, the members . of the Gisborne Rifle Brass Band assom- [ bled to make a presentation to their popular secretary, Mr C. F. Humphreys. Mr McKillop, the bandmaster, in making the presentation, referred to the ability of Mr Humphreys as secretary. He said that in all his travels he had never met a more "energetic secretary. The present splendid position of the Band was the fruits of his energies, and but for him the Band would not be in possession of the splendid set of instruments, which undoubtedly are the finest in the colonies. In presenting Mr Humphreys with a handsome writing desk on behalf of the members of the Band, he conveyed the best of wishes, and hoped the recipient would still continue to take the same keen interest as he had done in the past. Mr Hmnphreys, in reply, said Jje had been taken by surprise, never expecting a present.;;.He had only done his duty as secretary, and it pleased him to think the members had so highly appreciated his services in the position they had placed him. They had one of. the best conductors in New Zealand, and members who took a keen interest in the welfare of the Band. In conclusion, three hearty cheers were given for the secretary and bandmaster,
