THE NEW COMMANDANT.

The Dunedin correspondent of the Lyttelton Times telegraphs : —From a trustworthy source I learn that the final instructions of Colonel Porter, before embarking by the Gulf of Taranto, were to go straight to the front with the Seventh Contingent, to relievo the Fourth and Fifth, then to reorganise and take command of the whole of the Now Zealanders, using liis influence with Lord Kitchener to permit the men from this colony to keep together. He has been further requested to return to the colony not later than October, to relieve Colonel Penton, whose term of engagement with the colony then expires.
