The Takapuna Jockey Club’s Winter Meeting commenced this afternoon, and, although the weather was bleak and showery, the attendance was distinctly good. The sum of £7,528 was put through the totalisator during the afternoon. The following are the results: — Maiden Hurdles, -14 miles and 100yds : F. Keating’s Perseverance (Berry) 1, Tiki 2, The Wafle 3. Also started : Lieutenant, Lady Dash, Royal Conqueror, and Capford, Won by four lengths. Time 3.6 2-5. Totalisator 504 ; on winner 48. May Hurdles: Haydn 1, Roer 2, Sudur 3. Ivaimate also started. Won by a neck. Time 4.4 3-5, div. £1 14s. Hunters’ Hurdles: Lochade 1, II Jam 2, Nectar 3. Opaku was scratched. Won easily. Tune 4.15, div, £5 9s. Second Hack Hurdles : Rodara 1, Hutana 2, Cannongate 3. All started. Won easily. Time 3.3, div. £4. Final Steeplechase : Opaku 1, Rhino 2, Claymore 3. Bushman and Tui were the other starters. Won ! by seven lengths. Time 4.26 3-5, div. £2 4s. Farewell Hack Flat: Fakir 1, Maro 2, Robin Adair 3. Fourteen others started, Wild Vixen being scratched.
