The Takapuna Jockey Club’s Winter Meeting commenced this afternoon, and, although the weather was bleak and showery, the attendance was distinctly good. The sum of £7,528 was put through the totalisator during the afternoon. The following are the results: — Maiden Hurdles, -14 miles and 100yds : F. Keating’s Perseverance (Berry) 1, Tiki 2, The Wafle 3. Also started : Lieutenant, Lady Dash, Royal Conqueror, and Capford, Won by four lengths. Time 3.6 2-5. Totalisator 504 ; on winner 48. Dividends : Inside £9 15, outside £l3 17s. Maiden Plate, seven furlongs: B. L. Clelaud’s Belfast (Pope) 1, Sly Miss 2, Merry Kate 3. First Pony Handicap, 5 furlongs : M, C. Lindsay’s Trooper, Speakman, 1 ; Mamoa, 2 ; Cuisine, 3. Also started : Orange and Blue, Lena, St. Loauder. Mara, Garnet, Heliades, and Chief Miss, Won by half a length. Time, 1.7. Totalisator, 1237 ; on winner, 60 ; dividends, inside £l7 6s, outside £2O 16s.

Royal Handicap, 5 furlongs; W. G. Ralph’s Lady Avon, Abbott, 1; Takapuna, 2, Hastings, 3. Also started: Solo, St Olga, Balbirnie, Tiki, St Elmo, Takapa, Lady Dash, aud Delia Rose. Won by two lengths. Time 1.4 2-5, totalisator 1290, divs. £5 18s aud £5 14s.

WANGANUI—FIRST DAY. . [by telegraph—press association.] Wanganui, last night. For the Wanganui J.C. Winter Meeting, first day, there was fine weather, and a large attendance. The results were : Flying.—Sundial 1, Gipsy Queen 2, Waterford 3. All started. Won easily. Time, 1.19 4-5. Div., £ls. Grandstand Steeplechase.—Moifaa 1, Claymore 2, Kauri Gum 3. Won by the full length of the straight. Eight started, but five fell. Time, 5.41. Div., £2 6s. Hack Flying.—Aquinaldo 1, Breeze 2, Robin Adair 8. Fifteen started. Won by a good length. Time, 1.21-1-5. Div., £l9 12s. Century Hurdles, 300 sovs.—Haydn, 9.7 (A. Hall), 1 ; Waiwera, 10.12 (Higgins), 2 ; The Guard, 11.8 (Naylor), 3. Moifaa was scratched. Won easily. Time, 4.13. Div., £4 Bs. First Hack Hurdles. Rodara 1, Pukana 2, Hutana 3. All started. Won on the post. Time, 3.2 8-5. Div., £l7 7s. Hunters’ Steeplechase. Opaku 1, Lochade 2. Fitzlee 3. Glencoe and Kohu were scratched. Won oasily. Time, 6.50. Div., £4 12s. Hack Flat. —Maro 1, Elusion 2, Robin Adair 3. Ten others ran. There was a splendid finish, the race being won on the post. Time, 2.6 1-5. Div., £8 7s. At the W..T.C. meeting the second day’s results were:— Winter Oats : Crusoe 1, Jowel Gun 2, Gipsy Queen 3. Won easily. Time 2.10, div. £4 2s. All started. Wanganui Steeplechase: Moifaa 1, Plain Bill 2. The other' starters were, The Guard and Vanquish. Vanquish fell, and The Guard did not finish. Moifaa won with ease. Time 6.44, div. £2 Bs. May Hurdles: Haydn 1, Roer 2, Sudur 3. Ivaimate also started. Won by a neck. Time 4.4 3-5, div. £1 14s. Hunters’ Hurdles: Lochade 1, II Jam 2, Nectar 3. Opaku was scratched. Won easily. Tune 4.15, div, £5 9s. Second Hack Hurdles : Rodara 1, Hutana 2, Cannongate 3. All started. Won easily. Time 3.3, div. £4. Final Steeplechase : Opaku 1, Rhino 2, Claymore 3. Bushman and Tui were the other starters. Won ! by seven lengths. Time 4.26 3-5, div. £2 4s. Farewell Hack Flat: Fakir 1, Maro 2, Robin Adair 3. Fourteen others started, Wild Vixen being scratched. There was a close finish. Time 1.50 4-5, dividend £l6 19s.
