(To the Editor.)

Sir, —It seems to me time that the papers dropped the references to fever, which are causing much uneasiness, besides doing the town harm, but I cannot allow to pass unnoticed figures which have been presented to laud the present management at the' expense of the reputation of such men as the late Dr Innes, whose equal in skill could not bo surpassed in the colony. The figures adduced show that while in 1897 tho average deaths were 4 per cent., in 1898 it rose to 5, in 1899 to 6, in 1900 to 7 ; in 1901, of which five months have not yet passed, the average is nearly 11 per cent. It is with regret I point this out, and merely do so iu defence of an old and valued friend. As for the Hospital management, I believe that there is no institution in the colony better managod. —I am, etc., Justice.
