THOSE DAIRY FACTORIES

To the Editor. Sir, —A letter appears in your paper of the 18th, in which the writer, Mr W. CWalsh, makes various random statements, ' evidently to enlighten the ignorant and mislead the public. With regard to the good advice he gives to the dairymen of this district, I have nothing to say, and milk-suppliers can take it for what it is worth ; hut with regard to tho statement “ that the farmers have, within a period of three years, built and equipped two factories for which we have paid,” I give such an emphatic denial; and go further, and say that such a statement is a deliberate falsehood, so far as it regards the Itia-Ora factory. But, perhaps, W. C. Walsh is like the party signing himself “ Justice ” a few days ago. He knew of over 80 factories in the Waikato, all paying well, when, as a matter of fapt, there are only 27 in the provincial district of Auckland. So, perhaps, the “we ” mentioned in W. O. Walsh’s letter has erected and paid for two factories without KiaOra. If so, I will have to send in a humble apology later on, as a man with such a large and varied experience as Mr W. C. Walsh professes’ to have in dairy factories could not possibly fie mistaken. Ohj dear, no; he knows even how much should be paid in dividends and bonuses, and all the little details, even to the dregs of oil required for the machinery. ‘ Not being a footballer or land-valuer, I must pass over the other edifying subjects; and apologising for troubling you.—l am, etc., Thos. McGregor, Proprietor Kia-Ora Dairy Factory. May 20th, 1901. P.S.—I intended to keep out of the Co-operative movement ; but, when a man'is attacked in his private business, it is time to kick against it, especially if such statements are utterly false, as in the present case. —T.McG.
