(Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. Mrs Frank O’Dowd (nee May Ryan), wife ofjlie licensee of f i Criterion Hotel, died very suddenly tl.ri morning from the effects of an oper -An. Tho deceased lady, who has a K .or in Gisborne, Miss Renie Ryan, was v cry popular. The Hon. .Times Carroll’s medical attendant reports that he is doing well, though he is still confined to his bed. Mr W. Pitt, who returned to Auckland from South Africa last Wednesday, may accept a position (clerical work) in a Government office in Wellington. Mr Pitt leaves for Wellington next Tuesday, and will call at Gisborne and probably remain at his old home for a few days. Among the many Gisbornites Mr Pitt dropped across while ho was soldiering in South Africa were the Misses Helen and Mary Iverr, who left Gisborne some years ago." Their mother, who was for yoars a Gisborne resident, unfortunately died upon arrival on tho African coast.
