RAILWAY COLLISION
GOODS TRAINS SMASH INTO EACH OTHER,

The goods train was standing at ltydal on a siding with a down-grade, waiting for the cattle-train coming from the opposite direction to pass. It broke away, owing to the air-brake becoming exhausted, and collided, after travelling a mile and a-half.
Both engines wore derailed, and were badly damaged. Several coal-trucks and four sheep-vans were smashed, and 150 sheep were killed.
Driver Evans was injured on the head, and Driver Payne was bruised on the chest. Fireman McGie had his legs scalded, but not seriously. Traffic was blocked throughout the day, the passengers and mails being transferred.
The driver of the goods train, seeing that a collision was inevitable, closed his eyes, and knew no more till he found •himself standing upright at the side of the line.
