The employees of two principal firms of painters, numbering about 20, went out on strike this' iijornjng, demanding to be paid in accordance with the award'of the Conciliation Board in force in Wellington. The masters hold that, as the Napier employers were not cited when the case was before the Board, the award does not apply to them. Later. —In connection with the painters’ strike, the Napier Union hat communicated with the Wellington Union, in whose district it is, and it is expected that in the course of a few days the matter will be amicably settled.
