A SAD AFFAIR.
A YOUNG MAN POISONED.
A sensation was caused in town yesterday on receipt of news of the death of Frederick Kempthorne, a young man who had been working for Mr McCutcheon, at Wbarokopae. From the meagre information to hand it appears that the young man went out of the house and became very ill, showing symptoms of poisoning. Asked if he had taken anything of the kind he at first denied, but afterwards admitted that he had taken some arsenic, but whether by accident or design is not yet clear. All efforts to save his life were unavailing. He had been leading a lonely life on the station. Sergeant Siddells, Dr. Craig, and Mr Stubbs, J.P., went out to Wharekopae yesterday, and an inquest will be held this morning. The young man is the son of a much-respected settler';’ he had been at college for some years prior to settling down to station work. He was well-known throughout the district, and was thought a great deal of by a large circle of friends.
