RETURNING TROOPERS.
ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION AT CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The returned troopers met with an enthusiastic reception on arrival here this evenin'’. At the station addresses of welcome were given by the Mayor and Premier. Mr Seddon stated that the Government had declined to entertain the suggestion by the Imperial authorities that the Boer prisoners should be interned at Stewart Island, and that to-morrow Major Jowsey would be promoted to the rank of Colonel. A short thanksgiving service, attended by the men, will be held in the Cathedral to-morrow. There will be luncheon and a conversazione.
