CHARGE OF ARSON.

INSURANCE AGENT REBUKED BY JURY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, last night. As a result of the enquiry touching the recent fire at WaUuno, whereby five places were destroyed, a man named Edward Williams, whose fancy goods depot was also burned, was brought before the Police Court to-day on a charge of arson, but at the request of the police he was remanded to Waihi for eight days, bail being allowed. The verdict of the jury at the inquiry was “ That Edward Williams did set fire to his place at Waikino.” They also added a rider to the effect that the action of G. Maberly, ageut for the Imperial Company, in accepting a fire risk without proper investigation, was reprehensible.
